Multidimensional Study of Chinese Idioms and the Issue of Teaching Chinese Idioms as a Foreign Language

Chinese idioms, formed of refined simplicity, rich in content, is an important carrier ofChinese culture, is also a kind of important language materials. This researchcombined the characteristic of Chinese idioms and teaching, the use of linguistics, andapplied some related theories, such as Linguistic, Culturology, Teaching theory, and thetheory of Second Language Acquisition. This research analyzed the pronunciation,semantics, syntax, rhetoric, pragmatics, and cultural aspects of idiom. we can build inthe external idiom teaching mode on the basis of the multi-dimensional study.There are16types of Oblique rhythm of the pronunciation, and two main types are”Level, Level, Oblique, Oblique” and “Oblique, Oblique, Level, Level”. The semanticresearch of idiom focus on the Imagery meaning of idiom, and it can be divided intoContent semantic field and Color semantic field according to semantic field theory.This article also analyzed the metaphorical meaning of the idiom according to threetypes of metaphor theory. it focuses on six cases of the transfer of essential meaning ofidiom by citing examples.In the part of “Grammatical studies “, it analyzed the seventypes of idiom structure. And the structural relationships and structural componentswere shown the characteristics of a balanced symmetry. we can summarize that thereare11special grammatical phenomena by analyzing the three kinds of idioms whichact as syntactic component in a statement.ChapterⅡdiscussed rhetoric and language style of idioms. In this part, it summarizedthat there are six utilize phenomena and four variants form of idioms. From the formand content culture of idioms, it focused on the hierarchy of Idioms and introducedvarious types of material culture and intangible cultural contained in idiom.ChapterⅢ deals with the Teaching of Chinese Idiom as a Foreign Language, and focuson the syllabus, textbooks, and teachers’ teaching. According to the problems, thisresearch put forward four recommendations of the foreign idiom teaching. Deductivemethod was constructed for the figurative idiom teaching mode of “audio-visual- perception”, as for the abstract idiom teaching mode of “cognitive-communicative”.
